Mito’s Switchblades
CATALOGUE: Weapon
OWNER: Jun Mito
DESCRIPTION: A pair of switchblades, almost an arm-length, made of metal which the hilt is covered in leather for a steady grip during wielding. Both of the blades are two fingers long, having a thin and long triangular shape like a stiletto but only one-edged. The switchblade for the right hand possesses an extended blade that is soaked in kuuji ink, one finger long. The blade keeps hidden when the switchblade is activated, only being revealed through certain swing (which only can Mito do the swing).
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
The dual-wielding switchblades were handforged by his first mother Tan Lina who works as a blacksmith. It came from the obsession when Mito’s both mothers received a pocket knife (it was assumed to be gifted by his surrogate father, Jianinka Suun). The idea of the blade’s stiletto-shape came from his second mother Jun Reiko, telling her wife to forge the blade “like the tip of a dip pen” (because of her job as a fish merchant).
The weapons were forged as a pair of the both mothers to attempt hiisyu apology toward a criminal who accidentally murdered their daughter, or Mito’s big sister, Jun Hanika, when she was still seventeen years old. It took Mito almost a decade after the incident to find out about the cause of his sister’s death (because his both parents have been hiding it from him) after he finally gained his Badge as an emissary in Association of Criminal Investigation and is recognized as a Jianin swordmaster. The dual-wielding switchblades become a gift from his parents. The kuuji blade extension is added initiatively.
Mito is actually left-handed, but he’d been training himself to wield a sword on his right hand. Thus, the position of the kuuji blade extension.
